Hi WPS,
I'd like to start out by saying "wow." Which is what I was thinking over and over while checking out some of your portfolios. Its also what came to mind when I found out about this group and realized that there are local photographers that realize we are distinguished by our artistic visions rather than some technical "secret sauce" whose recipe must be protected. I feel privileged to be here and am looking forward to getting involved.
I am
very new to wedding photography. I second shot one wedding as part of a workshop with Christopher Goette last year in High Point. That's the extent of my experience so far, but I'm anxious to change that. I've been studying the art and industry of wedding photography for about a year now. I've read a lot of books and blogs and have digested every scrap of info on the subject that I have been able to get my eyes on. I've also looked at a LOT of photos, from great photographers and not so great photographers. I've also made a lot of photographs over the last year, mostly of models, friends and family and think that my skill behind the camera and with lighting and post has improved by leaps and bounds since I stopped shooting film and bought a digital SLR early last year (2009). That said, I've also come to realize what great photography looks like and realize that my pictures don't look like great photos... I've also heard that that's normal and is a by-product of developing good taste
I feel like now that I've done my homework, it's time to get some practical experience working under other photographers and shooting bridal portraits to build a body of work. Because I believe learning is a two way street, I can offer my knowledge and experience in business, marketing and accounting practices as well as my technical knowledge of computers, data networking and backup/archiving. My professional background is in management consulting and technology risk management. If you need help figuring out how you're going to deal with all that data you're creating, feel free to hit me up with questions.
Finally, I'd like to thank Frank and Elizabeth Myers for being such great hosts at the last PUG meeting and for welcoming me into their home and workplace as well as pointing me in this direction

It was great meeting everyone who came out to Frank and Elizabeth's on Feb. 4 and I can't wait to meet everyone else next week at Hi-5!
I think I've typed enough...
Thanks again,
