What to bring?
The great thing about photography conventions, if you've never been to one before, is the likelihood an impromptu shooting session will break out during a late night chat, or perhaps a favorite photographer of yours pops into a conversation. Conventions are an immersive experience and we highly encourage you to bring a few things to facilitate your time here:
∙ Camera Body, a couple of lenses, a speedlight or small light of choice
∙ Plenty of batteries, memory cards, etc
∙ Laptop, iPad, memory card reader
∙ Water bottle
∙ Aspirin (not saying, just saying).
∙ Comfortable Shoes
∙ Comfortable clothing - In August, temperatures can get into the high 90's and it's HUMID, so make sure you're bringing clothes that you can be outside in and be comfortable.
WRAL - Weather & News

About your WPS membership
Full membership is granted to those with a majority of professional wedding/portrait related photography on their website. This is to keep high standards for our meetings and forum participation. The WPS is an incubator for ideas, sharing information, learning and growing for everyone involved so we definitely welcome your participation and hope to meet you in person at one of our meetings.
Student memberships are granted to those who are new to the portrait or wedding photography world and have little wedding or portrait work in their portfolio. Our definition of a pro wedding or portrait photographer is 50% or more of your website is wedding & portrait specific. As such, we certainly welcome you to participate and to attend the meetingsbut we do limit access to some forums as a means of controlling who has access to certain information. This is in no way a judgement of skills or potential. Our goal is to provide a provide a “safe” environment to learn and grow in without being subject to the, sometimes, straightforward and critical comments that come with being a professional photographer.
So who am i?
Your membership level was decided when a member of the WPS staff reviewed your website and judged it based on several criteria - mostly based on the amount of portrait and wedding specific work you have. As this is an automated message you can look for yourself. If you have access to any forumsthat end in - members, you have full membership. If you can only see the public forums, you are a aspiring member. Aspiring members can start topics and make replies, but only in the public forums. An aspiring member can, at any time, ask to be re-considered for full membership by emailing the admin team. Please make sure an include your forum name when doing so.
Please check the following locations for how to get the most from being a WPS member:
All of these locations contain meeting and general WPS announcements and are accessible to both aspiring and full members.
If you are not close to any local chapters, and are interested in holding meetings in your area, please let us know! The community meetings bring so much talent together that we have found many, many opportunities to further professional wedding photography as a whole and our individual talents as well – so we highly encourage getting meetings going in your area.
All meetings are announce on our calendar.
Please let us know if you have any questions. You can always reach our staff via email!
All the best and welcome to the WPS!

Hi everyone. My name is Dina Maria and I am a budding photographer from Youngsville NC. I started my business in January and have spent most of the past 8+ months studying, volunteering my time to non-profits, and practicing. I created a business plan and my business plan was simple, well as simple as a business plan can be. It was to improve myself to ensure I provide quality to my clients. I still have a long way to go but have already noticed a huge difference in my work by, as I mentioned above, practicing, studying, and volunteering. But the one thing I have found most valuable was being critiqued by my peers. I have learned so much from my peers and appreciate their openness to share their knowledge. I am really looking forward to 2014 and making it the year I start building a client list. Cheers~

I got an email something like this today... I thought for ONCE I answered it pretty well. I don't know how it was received on the other end but I know I am not shooting a wedding 7-8 hours all the negs included for $2k. I just thought I would share... Because every word of it is true...
I would LOVE to be able to do this for you and if you were getting married on a Friday or Sunday I could totally work something out. No, I am not able to do this... I have a studio and expenses I have to cover which are based on a budget of shooting x # of weddings at x $. Some of the newer photographers haven't learned that you have to replace most all of your gear after 5 years then the same goes for your computer equipment and all the other expenses that come up in years 2-3 and beyond. They usually go out of business within 3 years because they don't understand the economics that go into having a lasting and sustainable business. I want to be here for the long hall for my clients and watch them go from being excited newlyweds to new Mommies and Daddies and then some day to maybe shoot their babies’ babies. : ) Thank you SO much for giving me an opportunity and I know you will find someone fabulous although I hate it is not me. But if anything changes I would LOVE to meet you.
Thanks again! And congrats again!! : )
